Stage 1 Presents THE GREAT LADIES OF THE '80s Starring JUANITA HARRIS
Join us for this hot, rockin' one night only of music with Juanita Harris and her band!
Season opener!! Do you LOVE Broadway? Fremont Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to present the most popular symphonic Broadway show in the world with three fantastic singers who have starred in some of the biggest musicals on Broadway.
Symphonic in scale and conductorless, Music at the Mission will shake the roof off Old Mission San Jose as the MAM Chamber Players take on this daring program of large scale chamber works. Dvoraks orchestral, Serenade for Strings in E Major, Mendelssohns masterpiece Octet in E-flat, Adams propulsive Shaking and Trembling from Shaker Loops, and Golijovs homage to the great tango composer Astor Piazzolla, Last Round (borrowed from the short story about boxing by Julio Cortázar) will knock you out!
Conductor John Farris leads the Fremont Symphony in works of staggering, transcendent beauty. Experience Ravel’s sublime Pavane for a Dead Princess and Barber’s heart-wrenching Adagio for Strings. Be among the first to hear “Gayatri Transfigured” a world-premiere composed by FSO’s principal cellist Dan Reiter that is based on an ancient Indian Raga.
Throughout history, the number seven has been associated with mystery, perfection and alchemy. Discover the power of seven through these rarely-performed gems, each composed for a different combination of seven instruments. Saint Saëns’ delightful Septet in E-Flat Major opens the concert with strings, piano and trumpet. It is followed by Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro, which was written to showcase the expressive range and elegant finesse of the harp. The concert closes with the lively Beethoven Septet in E-Flat, which the composer eventually resented for its extraordinary popularity.
Masterful, romantic and passionate, the music of Hungary and Austria echoes the historic river that links these distinctive cultures along its far-flung banks. While the countries differ greatly in language and conventions, they share common artistic roots. Mighty Danube has it all from Haydns melodic confection and Dopplers exquisite pastoral to the fearless intimacy and intensity of Smetana, Liszts thunderous gallop, and Dohnanyis lush, sorrowing emotion. It is poetry and storytelling at its finest! The Mighty Danube has it all.
Eye opening, genre bending and wonderfully surprising! Elegant and outrageous virtuoso strings in a program of favorites, new arrangements and improvisation. Check your preconceptions at the door to get the most out of this unique classical and rock experience.
